Downloader Settings
1. General
1.1 Download Location
The default value is the current user's Downloads directory.
- macOS users need to grant WhaleDown the permission to access the
Downloadsdirectory. - We do not recommend that the download directory name contains CJK, Emoji, or special Unicode characters.
- We do not recommend using an external hard drive or network disk as the
Downloadsdirectory.
1.2 Maxiumum number of concurrency
The number of videos that can be downloaded simultaneously. When the number of tasks to be downloaded exceeds this, WhaleDown manages them through a queue.
We don't recommend setting a higher value. Otherwise, the video server may refuse to provide the service (DoS).
2. Video Preferences
2.1 Use H.264 codec for transcoding
Whether to use the H.264 codec when merging video and audio. Unfortunately, WhaleDown currently lacks a method to automatically determine whether to use H.264 Codec.
- If this option is disabled, Videos downloaded from Vimeo.com cannot be previewed.
- If this option is enabled, downloading video and audio from ARTE.tv is extremely slow and causes high CPU usage.
- This option may affect whether the audio in the downloaded video can be played properly. Please refer to the No Audio for more details.
If you run into these issues while downloading videos, we recommend that you switch this option and try again.
3. Audio Preferences
When the m3u8 or dash you want to download contains multiple audios, try to download the audio according to the prefered language you have set.
4. Subtitle Preferences
When the m3u8 or dash you want to download contains multiple subtitles, try to download the subtitle according to the prefered language you have set.
