Browser

WhaleDown is a web video download software that needs to work with a browser. To get started, you'll need to launch a browser through the main interface. All you need is to play the video in your browser, and WhaleDown does the rest.

Currently, WhaleDown supports three browsers.

WhaleDown Browser

WhaleDown has had a built-in browser since its inception. It now has a name of its own — WhaleDown Browser.

In the latest version of WhaleDown, the built-in browser is moved to a separate window. When you launch WhaleDown, we'll open the built-in browser window by default.

Browser

WhaleDown Browser is simple to use, and you'll be able to use it quickly. It will send the detected video/audio data to the main program. The whole process is completely automated.

Like Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge, WhaleDown Browser is also based on the Chromium kernel. You can trust 100% of the world's most popular and secure browser kernel.

Built-in Features

  • User Agent Switcher
  • Bookmark Manager
  • Live tab preview

Future

We'll further strip the built-in browser. Eventually, we'll be releasing a standalone WhaleDown Browser app. This will bring the following two benefits,

  • Significantly reduced installation package size
  • Independent development pace to speed up software iteration

External Browsers

If you want to use an external browser, you need to click the

button at the top of the main interface. As mentioned at the beginning of the article, WhaleDown supports Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge as external browsers.

If you don't have an appropriate browser installed on your computer, you'll see the menu below. Please click on the menu item to install the appropriate browser.

Install Browser

When the browser is installed, WhaleDown checks the default browser installation location. Click the

button again and you'll see the menu below.

Launch Browser

Once you launch an external browser, WhaleDown will tidy up the main window and the external browser window, and set up a communication link with the external browser. The next steps are the same as using an internal browser.

In the latest version, you can install extensions and manage bookmarks in the external browser. Now, go ahead and try out a fully functional external browser.

caution

WhaleDown can only communicate with a browser launched by itself. If WhaleDown accidentally crashes and the external browser does not exit, the newly opened WhaleDown will also not be able to communicate with the previous external browser.

tip

When you get a 403 error during the download process, you should try launching Google Chrome from WhaleDown.

This type of error is usually caused by a protected key. Since we've introduced a key caching mechanism into Google Chrome's support, this type of problem has been completely solved.
